Giveaway: Cirque Du Soleil Amaluna-Let’s Get Mythical!

It’s Thanksgiving week! I for one have a ton to be thankful for: my husband, my family, and of course, my little peanut that I am expecting in May! I am also thankful to all of you, healthy fat readers, who’ve stuck by me throughout the various transitions of this blog and my life. So when the opportunity came to do an awesome giveaway, I jumped at the chance!

On December 11, Cirque Du Soleil bring’s it’s latest show, Amaluna, to the Big Top at SunLife Stadium. I have always been drawn to the beauty and mystique of Cirque Du Soleil-each show bringing an new form of expression and movement for it’s audiences to experience. Their latest show, Amaluna invites the audience to a mysterious island governed by Goddesses and guided by the cycles of the moon. Their queen, Prospera, directs her daughter’s coming-of-age ceremony in a rite that honors femininity, renewal, rebirth and balance which marks the passing of these insights and values from one generation to the next.

In the wake of a storm caused by Prospera, a group of young men washes ashore the island, triggering an epic and emotional story of love between Prospera’s daughter and a brave young suitor. But theirs is a love that will be put to the test and the couple must face numerous demanding trials before they can achieve mutual trust, faith and harmony.

Amaluna is a fusion of the words ama, which refers to “mother” in many languages, and luna, which means “moon”; a symbol of femininity that evokes both the mother-daughter relationship and the idea of goddess and protector of the planet. Amaluna is also the name of the mysterious island where this magical story unfolds.

A TRIBUTE TO THE WORK AND VOICE OF WOMEN

For the first time in Cirque du Soleil‘s history, Amaluna features a cast that comprises 70% women, with a 100% all-female band. “Amaluna is a tribute to the work and voice of women”, explains Director of Creation Fernand Rainville. “The show is a reflection on balance from a women’s perspective”, he adds. Writer and Director Diane Paulus, winner of a 2013 Tony Award (Pippin) and recently named as one of Time Magazine’s 100 Most Influential People of 2014, says; “I didn’t want to build a ‘women’s agenda’ show. I wanted to create a show with women at the center of it, something that had a hidden story that featured women as the heroines.” Paulus drew from a series of classical influences when creating the concept of the show, including tales from Greek and Norse mythology, Mozart’s The Magic Flute and Shakespeare’sThe Tempest.

  2. I would love to win tickets to Cirque’s Amaluna because I am all about a female centric show with heroines for the audience to adore! It’s exactly why I’ve particpated in past performances of The Vagina Monologues, and why I hope that my future pro bono work as an attorney can be to help women that have been victims of domestic violence. We need to raise women up and give them every opportunity to feel strong and powerful with their femininity!

    Great contest, Meesh!

  4. Although I lived in Orlando for about 4 years and still travel there often to visit family, my boyfriend and I have never been able to afford tickets to La Nouba, Cirque du Soleil’s permanent show at Downtown Disney. If we won these tickets, I’d be over the moon with joy! I’m sure it will make for an unforgettable date night. Hope we win! 🙂

  6. Hate to be a downer which I’m regularly not, but after sitting here in the hospital for 3 nights and finding out that my Partner was just diagnosed with MS, I think it would be great distraction for us both.
    Happy Holidays to all.
    Never take anything for granted.

  8. I have only seen Cirque Du Soleil once for “Alegria,” and I remember it was a great experience. I’m participating in this competition because I would love my parents to live the same moment if I were to win this pair. My parents have been my biggest inspiration, they’ve raised by two brothers and myself, and are doing the same with my school-aged nephew and niece. They always joke around about being parents at 60 again, but I know it’s not easy taking on the task of being the abuelos/parents –especially when they should be enjoying their sixth decade. Winning this pair of tickets would make the best Christmas present to my parents, especially my mother –mi ama– who has all the traits of an inspirational and empowering woman. My father, as a new retiree, all he does is watch Cirque Du Soleil on YouTube. If they could only catch a glimpse of the real deal, would mean the world to me and to them.

  9. Amaluna would be the perfect date for me and my boyfriend because we have NEVER had the chance to see a Cirque de Soleil show and have always wanted to! I have caught him several times watching youtube video’s non-stop of Cirque de Soleil shows and the look on his face says it all. We are both very busy, I’m a nurse, and he runs his own company- and we barely have time to do date night. I would love this opportunity to surprise him with something that he’s always wanted to see, especially for the holiday season. Please give me the chance to make my wish come true and give him the best present I could ever offer him! He’s the most important person in my life, a wonderful boyfriend and loving son to his parents, and I know winning this for us would mean the world to him.

  13. More than the obvious amaze-balls of an evening it would be to see a Cirque show, I can say I would appreciate going because I’m a former gymnast/competitive cheerleader (not the rah-rah type) and fantasy nerd at heart. I know what a round-off, back handspring layout step out is (I can still do it..please see link below) and loved watching sailor moon growing up. What a better combo to enjoy both worlds than seeing Amaluna. So I hope you’ll consider me and thanks for paying it forward and giving away two tickets. Un abrazo, Josie Cano.
